The regulators’ figures make the point: in one year, the combined balance sheet of CEMAC banks grew by 11.5%, and the value moved through mobile money by 20.3%.
As volumes and players go digital, the infrastructure of trust, transparency and risk analysis has to keep up: industrialize its processes, document its methods and demonstrate compliance with international standards.
What is at stake for GIC Rating
GIC Rating S.A. is the first credit rating agency licensed by COSUMAF, the financial market regulator of Central Africa, under decision no. 149-2026 of August 7, 2026 (license COSUMAF-AGN-01/2026). Its scope includes sovereign risk, infrastructure, banks, microfinance, insurance, and companies raising savings or credit.
On October 28 and 29, 2026, the agency held the first regional forum on credit rating and transparency in Douala, open to public bodies, regulators and financial players from the region.
“Our goal for the technology side of GIC Rating is to digitize and industrialize credit rating, for sovereign ratings as well as the private sector, in Central Africa and tomorrow, why not, to extend our mission to other regions. We have built our digital strategy in that direction.”
What the platform brings to the agency
Datamensio becomes the technology platform of the only licensed rating operation in the CEMAC zone. It gives GIC Rating the autonomy, independence and speed the agency was looking for.
On the platform, GIC Rating builds its own frameworks and methodologies, gathers data and evidence in a secure online client journey, runs assessments remotely or through interviews, and keeps a trace of every answer, document and revision. Rating after rating, the agency builds its own data capital.
Datamensio’s specialized AI speeds up analysis and the drafting of reports without replacing the rating committees. GIC Rating keeps its methods, its committees and the final decision; Datamensio rates no one.
